The problem is that a gay wedding is a celebration of two people who are living a lifestyle that God declares to be immoral and unnatural (Romans 1:26-27). Showing support and unconditional love could open doors of opportunity in the future. We do not hesitate to support friends and loved ones who struggle with other sins. The thought is that one’s presence at a wedding ceremony is an act of love and friendship toward the person-not toward the lifestyle or spiritual choices. Rather, they view it as extending Christ’s love toward a friend. Some would contend that a Christian should have no qualms about attending a gay wedding and that one’s presence at a gay wedding does not necessarily indicate support for the homosexual lifestyle. (Please see What does it mean that Jesus saves?) It is only through Jesus Christ that we may be saved from sin’s eternal consequences. We all sin and fall short of God’s glory (Romans 3:23). Homosexuality is just one of many sins listed in 1 Corinthians 6:9-10 that will keep a person from the kingdom of God. He was a friend to them.įurther, no one sin is greater than another. When Jesus ministered, those who were despised by society, the tax collectors and the sinners, drew near to Him (Matthew 9:10 Luke 15:1). First, a word of encouragement: if you are the kind of friend that a gay couple would invite to their wedding, then you are probably doing something right.
